Dean Gonzalez

Born and raised in Chicago, Dean moved to Los Angeles in ’92 to begin his editing career. During this time he established himself as a versatile editor, working with music video artists like Aerosmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, NAS, LL Cool J, Kid Rock, Nicki Minaj and commercial clients such as Reebok, Nike, Bose, J. Crew, Michelob Ultra, McDonald’s and Kohl’s. In 2010, he accompanied 30 Seconds to Mars on tour in North America to edit the music video for “Closer to the Edge;” the following year, he cut the music video for “This Is War” while touring with the band in Europe.

Dean started his feature film career with the movie "Between Us" directed by Dam Mirvish (Co-founder of the Slamdance film festival). That film won the Grand Prize at the Bahamas International Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Oldenburg Film Festival.  He also edited the Green Day documentary "Heart like a hand Grenade", and "The Tale of Four", Actor Gabourey Sidibe's directorial debut, that won the VOW Film Festival - The Voice of a Woman Award, Ibffnashville - Best Social Justice Film Award and the Black Star Fest - Audience Award for Best Narrative Short.

"They", produced by Jane Campion and directed by Anahita Ghazvinizadeh,  premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Camera and Queer Palm award. It was also nominated for the Grand Prize Chéries-Chéris and won the George C. Lin Emerging Filmmaker Award at the San Diego Asian Film Festival.

Dean’s latest feature film "BOO!" directed by Luke Jaden premiered at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and was produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, also known as the producer of “Insidious” and “Sinister.”
